REMOVE THE HOLES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SHOES! I run marathons and do triathlons. I've worn the last few generations of these shoes and loved them. Comfortable, lightweight, and fast. My one complaint - Why are there all these holes on the bottom??? On a dry day the holes collect rocks and pebbles. Usually you can't feel them, but they still weigh you down. Sometimes you can feel them and have to stop and pry them out. Very annoying. On a wet day, water gets forced up through the holes to soak your feet with every step. Doesn't matter if its raining - if the ground is wet, your feet will be soaked. Again - very annoying. On a cold/wet day - don't wear these shoes. Now you have freezing cold water bathing your feet. I tried to do a 10 miler in these shoes at temps around 36 degrees and wet. My toes were completely numb and burning. I was seriously afraid I had frostbite. There really is no point to having these holes. I've started using Shoe Gu to seal up the holes with each new pair, but eventually that wears off. PLEASE GET RID OF THE HOLES ON THE BOTTOMS OF THESE SHOES!!!!!

Design Flaw in the Upper for new Type A I had been racing and training solely in Type A4-A6 from 5K to Marathons. I log through 6-7 pairs of them a year. I started switching over to the new Type A when it was introduced. Form, fit, and ride are fairly close to A6. The outer sides near the small toe (where front foot flexes) began to tear with just 30-40 miles. Also, the front toe region (where you point your toe up) tore with a hole. I thought it was just the specific pair I was using so tried 2 other pairs, exact same behavior. It did not happen with A4-A6 due to the different upper material, and also with A6 because the thin plastic layer around the bottom edge goes further around the shoe past the fore foot flex. I am very disappointed with the upper build material of the new Type A and I can not wait for a possible fix or revision to come in 6 months or longer. It is not just another revision of running shoe for serious runners like myself. It is very unfortunate but I am trying to transition to other comparable low-drop neutral racers right now. My opinion on the new Type A is shared by other serious runners and on popular running forums. (I tried to upload an image (700kb) of the different versions of Type A upper and new Type A problem, but site is giving me error uploading.)

excellent lightweight racer/trainer Great shoe, true to size, nice snug fit, superb insole stability (no slippage), laces stay put in the knot and a nice responsive ride. I looked for a replacement for my New Balance MRC1600 V2, which is discontinued, and I found the Saucony Type A to match the characteristics of my former favorite shoes. They have a better outsole. these consist of three big sheets of "sticky rubber" at the proper thread instead of knobs welded on plastic sheets. The insole does not slide when doing sprint workouts, and the laces are sticking better in the knot. Another difference is that the shoe is slighly more flexible yet still very responsive. The grip of the outsole is remarkable under wet conditions. Slight disadvantages are the stonecatcher holes under the toes, but that does in general not pose (any) problems on asphalt or tracks and the limited color options. They are slightly heavier than my former favourite, And a last "disadvantage" of these shoes are is that you wanna go fast, its difficult to resist. These will certainly become my favorite trainers for the future.

A downgrade from the A6 I really wanted to like this shoe, because I loved the Type A6 so much. But these were a little disappointing. It hurts me, as a loyal Saucony customer, to write this review. I ran close to 500 miles in the Saucony Type A6 last year and I loved every single mile in them. The sole was close to the ground, responsive, and provided just enough protection to keep me injury-free. The upper was thin, light, and fit my foot well. However, the Type A7 is different. The sole fits very much the same, but the sockliner tended to bite a little right at the base of the arch. The upper, though, is where the shoe loses its quality. Saucony lost the thinness: it has heavier overlays on the midfoot. The heel has a shiny new overlay that I think is a step down from the A6. The real problems are in the forefoot. The oversized Saucony logo on the lateral side of the forefoot is not breathable and sometimes that side of my foot would overheat. It also causes a crease between the logo and the toe bumper, and it wears out quickly, leaving a tear. On the medial side of the shoe, there was also ripping, right by the base of the big toe. Another feature that I liked that was missing was the lace loop on the tongue. However, on the A7 the tongue had a sewn-on logo that fell of pretty quickly. I put about 300 miles on one pair this year and they are in pretty bad shape; I feel like the upper around the forefoot will come apart any day now. I'm also disappointed in the color. Even the green/yellow colorway from the A6 is better than these orange/red ones. I hope Saucony will keep the sole that they have developed on this racer, but the upper needs some serious TLC. A move back to the design on the A6, with a more even overlay, would be better, I think. Hopefully Saucony can improve on this product! I would love to see the next product in this line return to the greatness of the A6.

Decent Update While I think I personally prefer the feel of the A6, this update did not ruin the shoe by any means. It seems to be comparable in durability and weight, though there's something about the A6 ride I prefer (could it be a little softer?). At any rate, if you liked the A6, you'll probably be fine with this shoe as well.
