I'm about a year late to the game on this shoe and am very disappointed to learn that Saucony has discontinued the XC3. I assume it will be replaced with the XC4 but personally the Black/Red is one of the most aesthetically pleasing shoes I've ever seen.
These are very minimalist shoes. I use them as a training shoe in which I run/walk quarter mile intervals. I find the shoe promotes forefoot running, builds foot strength, and forces you to use your muscles to absorb impact. Very close to barefoot running.
Here is a sizing chart from tightest fit to loosest. Yes, the XC3 (12) is tighter than the A5 (11.5).
Shay XC3 (12) - very minimalist shoe, improves my running technique and foot strength with run walk intervals
Bullet (12) - great casual shoe // A5 (11.5) - less than 13 miles
Cortana 3 (11.5) - anything over 13 miles
Virrata (11.5) - gym // Guide 6 (11.5) - all day walking

I was a huge fan of the shay XC and XC2, but the XC3s feel cheaply made. I understand modifications were made to make it lighter, but it is extremely uncomfortable now. In my opinion, it was not worth the 0.7oz weight savings. Another shoe falls victim to weight shaving.

Rated 5 out of 5 Great Traction
I use these shows for track, and I LOVE them! They fit like a sock, so there's practically no need to "break them in." They're super light, grippy, and stylish. So far they seem like a very durable shoe, although I've only had them for a week, so don't take my word on that. I ordered a half size up and they fit PERFECTLY. They do fit snugly to your foot, so keep that in mind.
