Safira, 13
(turning 14 in October)

At age 10, this otherwise previously healthy young girl became suddenly critically ill with a rare disease called AFM (Acute Flaccid Myelitis). Safira became paralyzed from the neck down and required life-saving medical intervention, spending months in ICU and required much rehabilitation therapy.

She is now known as “Fearless Safira” and working on her speech and physical strengthening while attending school and spending her free time painting.
