Great spring, but at a cost?

Made the switch from Brooks several years ago and I'll never go back! Now I'm getting back into running after a grad school-induced hiatus, and the Guide 8s feel great to run in! Lots of spring off the forefoot while maintaining cushioning. However, I've had an uncharacteristic flare up deep in my "bad" ankle. Could be something else, but I've never had this problem with a new shoe before.
