By Kellie Wells-Brinkley

Some days I don’t want to, and some days I don’t have the time. I wish there were more hours in the day to work (for the best brand ever), work out and train, and be the supermom I believe I am, but sadly there aren’t. So, I stopped trying to wish for it and decided to will it.

I’ve always been a very disciplined person in time management because I wanted to squeeze the most out of my day. First, I should back up and give a little bit of background. My name is Kellie Wells Brinkley, and I am an Olympic medalist from 2012 who has her hands in so many things now. I am the global sports marketing manager for Saucony, a TV host, on-air analyst and commentator for professional sporting events, public speaker, author, parent, partner, and a few other hats. Still, I’m sure you get what I’m hinting at now. And all of these components are important, so I did not want to lose anything that made me happy. As you can imagine, I began to struggle immensely, and running was put on the back-burner. However, I couldn’t let that slide. At the essence of it all, running saved my life and got me to this point in life.

Now, I’ve always been a critical thinker, so I decided to do what I do best and make a plan to get back out there and get moving. I’m going to share a few of the things I did to manage and maximize my time:

  • Try using a calendar. My calendars are my best friends. I have them all synced up on my laptop, phone and google home device to remind me of what needs to be done and when. That takes the responsibility off of me on a daily basis to “remember” to do something. I also share my calendars with those who need them to remind them of things.
  • Bring the family. I take my son to the track or my favorite hill to run. It helps him fall in love with the sport that we all love. It also allows me to spend time with him to connect and talk in different environments.
  • Embrace the power of “no.” I love to say yes to people and help and be involved. However, I realized that I couldn’t do it all. So, I have to prioritize things and work from that list. I try to take internet breaks and breaks from sitting at my desk. I’ve got a desk that allows me to sit and then goes to standing at the push of a button. So, if you can, walk away, stretch, reset and get back to work.
  • Let go of the idea of perfection. I’ve embraced that every run and rep won’t be perfect and that being proud of myself and the progress I’m making at that moment is enough.
  • Self-care is a MUST. I will leave that up to you. My idea of self-care is a deep tissue massage, some dry needling, and an adjustment from my favorite chiropractor!
  • Find the beauty in the day. Even though I keep such a packed schedule, I take time in the day to be thankful for the moment and not get too caught up in looking ahead. If I don’t get it exactly right today, I know there is always a chance to ace it tomorrow.
